Oil vs. Lotion

Taking care of our skin continues to evolve. It can seem overwhelming trying to keep up with what the best products are to use on your skin. Oils have become extremely popular for your face. They are very effective, absorb quickly, and pack a punch with concentrated ingredients. So why wouldn’t we use it on our body?!

Most of us have become accustom to using lotions to moisturize our skin. They are great for healing dry skin but differ from oils in their ingredients and how they work. Lotions are usually water based. Your skin absorbs the water and then the moisture is locked in. When water is present in a product, preservatives have to be added which can be full of toxic chemicals.

Oils contain zero water and mimic the natural lips present in our skin. Because of this, the body treats them like our own skin when applied. They can help with repairing the skin and regulating moisture. When choosing an oil, you want to find one with ingredients that provide the benefits you are looking for.  For instance, Sweet Almond Oil (ingredient found in our Love Body Oil) contains Vitamin A which stimulates the production of new skin cells + smooth fine lines, Vitamin E helping reduce UV damage caused by the sun, and Omega-3 fatty acids that may prevent premature aging and reducing sun damage.

Don’t be afraid to make the swap! Here are a few tips when choosing & using a body oil:

  • Choose organic when possible

  • Look for ingredients that give you the benefits you are looking for

  • A little goes a long way, apply to wet skin right after a bath or shower

  • Allow your body to absorb the oil before putting on clothes
